Life Skills Training

Life-skills Training is adapted to suit the needs of each client but typically includes Literacy, Money Management, Budget Cookery and essential living skills.
During Spring 2007 residents from across the Trust began work to update the existing Residents Handbook. The booklet will include information about in-house activities, external support networks and local information.
Following on from this will be the introduction of a Living CV. Responding to residents’ feedback the Living CV is intended to provide a springboard for conversation during training and employment interviews. The CV will develop as residents accomplish Support Plan targets, take part in scheme activities and achieve qualifications. In essence, the Living CV will allow residents to document their personal progression towards independence.
Copies of the Residents Handbook and Living CV will be available to download soon.
Scheme Activities
In addition to the core funded life-skills training, Mayday schemes offer a wide range of Therapeutic Workshops and Activities. These groups are discretionary and entirely dependent on fundraised donations.
Schemes offer a variety of groups including: Aerobics, Art, Conservation, Creative Writing, Cycling, DIY Skills, Fishing, Information Technology, Music and Sewing. These programmes help residents to develop new interests, build confidence and improve social skills.

Support Groups
In response to resident need, a series of specialist Support Groups have been established within many of our schemes.
Where appropriate, scheme staff operate in-house Support Groups for issues ranging from Alcohol Misuse to Healthy Eating. Residents are able to share their experiences and work together to develop strategies for the future.
The Trust also works alongside local support agencies to offer specialist treatments. In one such partnership, representatives from CAN (a local drug and alcohol support charity) visit a Mayday Trust housing scheme to offer regular acupuncture sessions.
